About the university

Al-Qasim Green University is an Iraqi public higher education institution founded in 2012 according to the ministerial letter no. q/4/1/1150 in April 24th, 2012. It is based in Al-Qasim city/ Babylon Province, Iraq, 120 KMs southern Baghdad. The university was first founded after separating the colleges of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine from Babylon University and moving them to the new location in Al-Qasim city, followed by initiating of new colleges.

The university now has eight colleges: they are College of Agriculture, College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Environmental Science, College of Food Science, College of Science, College of Water Resources Engineering, College of Biotechnology, and College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences. In addition to the colleges, the university has two consultant bureaus: The Agriculture Consultant Bureau, and The Ecological Consultant Bureau. The university is a member in the European Erasmus+ program.

Sustainable energy and environmentally friendly have been taken into consideration when designing and constructing the buildings of the university, hence is the word “green” is chosen in its name. The university now includes about 728 teaching staff members and employees, 3420 undergraduates, and about 4460 students graduated from the university since its foundation.
The university is built on exploration through teaching, learning, research and collaboration among educators, students, and local as well as global communities.

  • Al-Qasim Green University holds a field workshop on how to detect and diagnose wheat rust disease Within the government program of agriculture, the Faculty of Biotechnology at Al-Qasim Green University, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture - Nile Agriculture Division, held a workshop and a field visit to wheat farms and orchards of the Nile region northern Babylon City. The workshop led by the coordinator of the Department of Biotechnology, Dr. Ali Fadhil Merjan, included several axes on detection of wheat rust disease, the most important symptoms and signs of wheat rust disease, the timing of the disease, and the matters that should be paid attention to when determining the infection.
    The workshop aims at increasing farmers' experiences on how to detect and diagnose rust diseases early and training the farmers to distinguish between the different types of pests that affect the wheat crop, the best ways to manage this disease, and the best way to reduce the damage to the wheat crop.

  • Al-Qasim Green University Holds a Training Course on DNA Extraction The Faculty of Biotechnology at Al-Qasim Green University held a training course on DNA extraction. The training course was presented by both the head of the Genetic Engineering Department, Dr. Haider Turki Al-Mousawi and the senior biologist, Intisar Hadi Taleb. The course included topics that dealt with the importance of the genetic material, its composition, methods of collecting various clinical samples and how to deal with them in the laboratory in order to extract the DNA in a pure form.

    Also how to use kit as an example to extract the DNA from human blood samples. The most important methods for measuring the purity and concentration of the DNA were also discussed, as well as how to separate the DNA bundles according to their molecular weight using the gel electrophoresis technique.

The voters' data, especially the added births (2001-2002-2003) of university students, as well as updating the data of all university employees and teaching staff members.
    Prof. Dr. Haider Abdul-Kadhim Al-Zamili, dean of the College, expressed the college’s readiness to host the roving group and allocate a place for it to be present at the university and provide them with all the necessary supplies.
