Overview
The Sustainable Procurement Policy is a new policy that the university has introduced. This policy's objectives are to support the university's overall strategy and guarantee that employees who are involved in the procurement of products, services, and labor across the university take into account relevant economic, social, and environmental considerations when making purchases.
The "process by which organizations meet their needs for goods, services, services, works, and utilities in a way that achieves value for money on a whole life basis in terms of generating benefits not only to the organization, but also to society and the economy, while minimizing damage to the environment" is known as sustainable procurement. The whole procurement process, including need assessment and definition, options evaluation, design and specification, supplier selection, tender review, post-contract management, and supplier development, can embrace sustainability.
Objectives
The goals of sustainable procurement are to:
- adhere to all applicable laws and regulations Encourage suppliers and contractors to be more conscious of and evaluate sustainability; acquire sustainable goods and services.
- lessen the effects of building and renovation initiatives on environmental sustainability.
- When defining a particular good or service, take into account social, economic, and environmental factors.
Develop metrics of our sustainable practice using industry standards; raise user community understanding of sustainable concerns and considerations; and incorporate sustainable criteria when assessing offers from possible suppliers.
- employ the metrics created to track our sustainable practices in order to look for ongoing improvement.
- compare our performance to that of comparable organizations using the outcomes of the monitored practice;
- examine the benchmarked performance to pinpoint areas where practice needs to be improved.
In order to promote sustainability's economic, social, and environmental facets, central contracts will be evaluated to make sure that:
- Contracts have been evaluated for corporate governance, financial stability and appeal, innovation potential, and business ethics and integrity.
- A diversity and equality questionnaire addressing human rights compliance, personnel management, and employment practices would have been filled out.
- Fair salaries and working conditions shall be taken into account in service contracts.
- An environmental questionnaire would have been filled out, and factors including waste management, carbon emissions, energy and water use, and sustainable sourcing would have been taken into account.
- Contracts for products will offer the opportunity to buy eco-friendly products, which will be clearly marked on the websites and markets.
